Dominican drivers encouraged to let Christ be their guide during Motorists Week 2010

‘Motorists Rise – Christ is our guide’.

That’s the theme chosen by the La Plaine Young Catholic Adult Men (LYCAM) and the Catholic Men’s Group in La Plaine to observe motorist week 2010.

The planning committee has organized a number of activities for August 29th to September 5th, aimed at sensitizing drivers on the importance of road safety.

Vice president of the committee Mr St Luce Dumas said that the week will commence with a talk by policemen and experienced drivers in the community.

“We also have a panel discussion carded for September 4th where our panelist will be joining with the ‘on the beat’ program on DBS Radio. This is aimed at giving the discussion islandwide coverage so that all drivers can hear the advice we have for them,” said Dumas.

The community of La Plaine has been observing motorist week for the past 5 years. A Eucharistic Celebration will be held on Sunday, September 5th at the La Plaine Catholic Church from 10:15am, where a moment of silence will be observed in honor of victims of fatal vehicle accidents.

The blessing of vehicles and a motorcade to the La Plaine playing field will proceed the mass.

Other activities marking motorist week will include a health walk on September 3rd from La Plaine to Liviere Blanc. SAT Telecommunications Ltd is pleased to be a part-sponsor of the event.
