2 Past Dominican Sports Heroes Recognized
Two sports heroes were recognized on Saturday May 11th as the Olympic Committee held an Inaugural Ceremony, in honour Dominica’s forgotten Sports Heroes at the Fort Young Hotel.
President of the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC), Mr. Felix Wilson said, this is a way of illustrating to the young persons that, we care about the sportsmen and women who precede us.
One of the very important sportsmen among us many may not know he said is Mr. Cecil Larocque.
The other individual recognized was Mr. Reginald St. Hayvis Shillingford, a coach and a sports administrator who served as president of the Dominica Olympic Committee (DOC).
Mr. Larocque who played both cricket and football for Dominica, was afforded two annual medical checkups to any doctor of his choice.
The cost of the visit, tests carried out and medication will be paid for by the DOC.
Mr. Larocque also earned himself a lifetime supply food basket valued at $200 which comprises of foods recommended by a nutritionist in addition to his favourites.
Both Mr. Larocque and Mr. Shillingford were awarded a cheque of $1,000 compliment of the DOC, as well as a commemorative plaque.
