Dominicans admonished to take control of Diabetes now, before it’s too late
The Portsmouth Health Team in collaboration with the Portsmouth Diabetic Branch observed World Diabetes Day with a grand market fair at the Portsmouth Market on Friday November 12th, 2010.
The fair which began at 10:00am, was geared at empowering the general public by providing them with the necessary information on the prevention and care of the disease.
Before declaring the day’s activity open, Parliamentary Representative for the Portsmouth Constituency, Honourable Ian Douglas pledged government’s commitment to do all in its power to control the spread of Non Communicable Diseases, in Dominica.
The Non Communicable Diseases epidemic can be eradicated if we change our lifestyles…no matter how young or aged you may be, it is important to adopt a healthy lifestyle, since healthy lifestyles foster a greater level of productivity,” said Douglas as he challenged the senior citizens to transplant their healthy lifestyle habits into the younger generation.
He also expounded on the importance of exercise and healthy eating habits, as he encouraged the public to take responsibility for their health.
2010 World Diabetes Day was observed under the theme “Let’s take control of Diabetes Now.”
