Donation to Pierre Charles secondary school
The Pierre Charles secondary school band will grow significantly as a group of Canadian residents headed by mike townsend donated wind instruments to the school.
The group hopes that after the installment of the musical instruments, interest in music will grow among the students and expand into the community.
Mike Townsend has worked with the national band and the cadet band in Dominica and says that he saw a need to enhance school bands as he found them to be lacking wind instruments.
He hopes to begin a music program in secondary schools to pioneer the installment of wind instruments in secondary schools on the island.
Some of the instruments donated to the Pierre Charles secondary school was a trombone, a clarinet, a flute and a French horn.
Donel Defoe, a senior student at the school says that the donation will be a great benefit to the school and to the school band.
The Pierre Charles secondary school has plans to begin a music program in the school that will cater to music at the CXC level.
