DPSU Native Expo Officially Opened
A brand new dimension has been added to the Independence Celebrations in Dominica.
The Second annual Native Expo brought crafts, food and wine from around the country, showcasing Dominican products.
Chief Cultural Officer, Mr. Raymond Lawrence, says Independence is about the identity of Dominica and what we produce here locally is certainly part of that.
The Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU) is hosting the event, and their President, Mr. Steve Joseph, says this demonstrates that the Union is not only interested in employment, but in national development as a whole.
He says Dominica has a lot of potential and he is honoured to be associated with such an event.
Participant at the Expo, Mrs. Valerie Nelson Olive, says Native Expo is a celebration of the success of the artisans, farmers and craftsmen of native products and they are delighted to be a part it.
One of the Participants, Mrs. Jacqueline Casimir-Cuffy owns “Najees”, where she makes a variety of local fruit wines.
It has been her passion since she was a child and she says there is no way you can do this without it being your absolute passion.
The expo will run through to the 25th of October.
