DPSU Recognizes Long-Serving Members

DPSU-300x168Seven long-serving members of the DPSU were recognized, when the Organization held its 7th Biennial Delegates Conference on Wednesday April 30, 2014.

The awardees were Secretary-general of the DPSU, Thomas Letang, former president of the DPSU, Mervin D Anthony, Reginald St. Havis Shillingford, Delia Cuffy-Weekes, Sharon Harris, Dominica Air & Seaports Authority shop steward Anthony Cedric Harris and former chief shop steward Paul Miller.

Steve Joseph, President of the DPSU spoke highly of the recipients, noting that they have been exemplary in their resolve, in their support, in their leadership in the Union”.

Reginald St. Havis Shillingford, joined the Union in 1953, when he took up an appointment as clerk at the Treasury Department, and has never stopped paying Union dues since his first appointment and continues to do so even though he is retired.

Delia Cuffy Weekes, who joined the Public Service in 1983 as a substitute teacher at the Dominica Grammar School, was praised for her continued remarkable contribution to the Union.

Augustina Sharon Harris, who joined the Union staff in October 1995 and served as messenger for seven years now holds the position of executive officer at the DPSU.

She was recognized for her long standing service.

Former president Mervin D Anthony, who joined in 1992 and served for two terms, was recognized for his strong leadership role.

They were all presented with plaques by Mr. Joseph.
