During the 11th commencement ceremony of the Dominica State College (DSC), Dr. Donald Peters President at the college, called on Dominicans to compete with the Chinese work ethics.

Mr. Peters stated that “work is not something that our country has learned to do well”. “We look at the Chinese immigrants among us who delivered and built this college on time and we marvel at them,” he told the gathering.

“But we don’t emulate them. We just look at them and say, ‘those Chinese can work hard we boy.’ I want you to be ready to work just like the Chinese or Europeans, or Americans.”

He therefore urged the graduands to embrace the ethics of work so as to attain the good things in life.

Mr. Peters went on to say that the mentality of not wanting to start at the bottom is wrong and needs to be changed in order to witness self-growth.

“A Dominica looking for new solutions to old problems, a Dominica still mired in the old ways of working as little as we can and getting paid as much as we can. You have to shift the work paradigm from one of complaining to one of doing,” he concluded.
