DSC Student to participate in World Youth Summit

ict-computer-science-computing-6A student from the Dominica State College will represent Dominica at the World Youth Summit in Costa- Rica.

Akeem Lowe from the Community of Portsmouth is expected to join other ICT persons in San Jose from September 9th – 11th.

Mr. Lowe will participate in a number of workshops and have the opportunity to meet and mingle with other world Youths and leading industry innovators, pioneers and professionals at the Summit.

The ICT Summit is being hosted by the Government of Costa Rica and organized by the International Telecommunications Union, (ITU) together with other organizations in the UN Family, as well as partners from governments, industry, media and civil society.

The Global Summit in Costa Rica will bring young people around the globe together – both physically and virtually – to participate in a series of workshops, presentations and conversations.

The Summit will issue a multimedia statement from young people onsite and virtually, for delivery to the United Nations General Assembly in September by the President of Costa Rica.

Mr. Lowe’s participation was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information, the Dominica State College and the ITU Offices in Barbados and Geneva.

The successors at this Global Youth Meeting were Miss Tammie Jean Jacques and Mr. Arthur Pemberton.

Mr. Lowe is expected to return to the Dominica on September 12th 2013.

In 2012, the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon declared Youth as one of the five main priorities in the run to 2015, the date for delivering the Millennium Development Goals
