E.C $6.37 million into New, Newtown School
After numerous speculations on the conditions of the Newtown Primary School, the Government of Dominica, has today, Wednesday, October 9th, signed the contract for the construction of the E.C $6.37 million (U.S $2.38 million) infrastructure.
The newly constructed building will consist of a sick bay, as well as a three-storey reinforced concrete structure with elevators, to accommodate the physically challenged.
The Minister believes that the level of anxiety from the Newtown people have been reduced, since the signing of the contract for the School’s construction.
The Newtown Primary School serves a very large catchment area, accommodating students from Grandbay, Scottshead, Newtown and environs.
Honourable Petter St. Jean, Minister for Education & Human Resource Development, says the objective of the Government is to provide quality education, to ensure that each child succeeds, as a strategy for economic development and poverty alleviation.
The new school is expected to improve student academic performance and help facilitate the conduct of social, cultural and community activities.
According to the ministers of the Dominica Labour Party, the newly built structures – the DSC and the Newtown Primary School are all part of the Government’s accommodation for Universal Education.
