Emancipation Day 2011 Events
The Waitukubuli Ecological Foundation in collaboration with the Citizens forum announced a trio of special emancipation events to mark Emancipation Day, on August 1st, 2011.
Mr. Bernard Wilshire, President of WEF calls on all Dominicans, the youth in particular, to be a part of these celebrations, to come and pay homage to our ancestors and know more about where we came from.
Also present at the release was Mr. Brian Linton of the Citizens Forum, who made some remarks.
The Emancipation Day events consists of the National Emancipation Hike, which will follow the Jacko route, on the Jacko Flats; the Emacipation Relay Run which starts at the bottom of the Jacko Flats, where two rivers meet, and athletes will carry the emancipation torch to Hillsborough United.
The third leg of the event will be the Emancipation Forum where everyone is welcome to take part in discussions on ecological issues currently affecting them.
Participants will meet at the primary school in Belles at 8 am on August 1st, 2011 where the participants will walk to the Belles River and the hike will begin.
Bus drivers, and taxi drivers are asked to assemble at Belles to take participants from Belles to Hillsborough United in the Layou area to join in the discussions.
