End of Hot Pepper Sauce Workshop
The Bureau of Standards along with the CARICOM Regional Organization for Standards and Quality (CROSQ) in collaboration with the International Cooperation Department of the German Metrology Institute (PTB), on Thursday April 3rd concluded a three day workshop, dubbed “Quality Management of the Hot Pepper Sauce Value Chain in Dominica”.
The workshop began on April 1st at the Fort Young Hotel, as the first step of implementing a regional quality infrastructure project.
Carl Felix Wolf, Project Coordinator Responsible for LAC (Latin America and the Caribbean) at PTB says the idea is to support the national institutions of quality infrastructure to be able to offer services and to develop new services to boost economic activity.
The focus of the project is to improve the quality of products and services, in an effort to increase productivity and export capacity of selected value chains using the CALIDENA Methodology, developed in Germany to identify and implement practical activities that can strengthen the quality infrastructure of a value chain, in order to increase competitiveness on the international market.
This will require participation from farmers down to the final producers.
It expected that the pilot industries in Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago, following the various workshops, will continue their strides to improve the marketability of their products.
