Minister of Public Works, Energy and Ports, Honourable Rayburn Blackmoore, is of the view, that DOMLEC the sole electricity company in Dominica, needs to be regulated properly in the best interest of its consumers.

He said small emerging countries like Dominica, are still faced with extremely high energy costs, as we pay $1.16 cents per kilowatt hour – one of the highest energy tariffs, as it relates to the Caribbean.

According to the Minister, Dominica cannot get to the ‘Promise Land’ if we have to spend such large sums of money on energy tariffs.

“We must therefore use our God given natural resource, to convert it into an opportunity for our people and our greatest hope is in geothermal energy”, he said.

He added, there must be solutions to the problems as it relates to the high cost of electricity in Dominica.
