Father Cuffy Speaks on Funeral Held for the Dead Body Found from Boating Accident
On February 19th, 2013 a boating accident occurred where a number of Haitians were missing and only one body was recovered.
On Thursday March 7th, St. Ann’s and St. Paul’s Parish Priest, Father Franklyn Cuffy, was asked to conduct a funeral for the body recovered, Madame Marie Claude Flora.
Father Cuffy says it was a privilege to conduct the funeral for the deceased Ms. Flora. However, he added that the most devastated part of the ceremony for him, was realizing, that there was no member of her family present at the funeral.
He noted, her two cousins were present. However no immediate family made an appearance.
The Parish Priest also touched the topic, “Human Trafficking”. He stated, if they were not committing an offence in the first place, this incident could and would have been avoided.
He said Haitians should come into Dominica legally and the same rules should apply when they leave.
Father Cuffy says Human Trafficking is a criminal activity.
He noted, since we are in the season of lent, certain precautions need to be taken.
Father Cuffy says, he received a letter from our Bishop asking every Parish to conduct a special mass as part of the Lenten Season.
