First Pro Metric Centre to Open in Dominica
Persons interested in Project Management or currently pursuing studies in project management, now have the opportunity to study right here in Dominica, thanks to the initiative of Management Consultant, Leanthia Pacquette-Lewis and the Management Consultancy & Agency Services (MACAS).
Beginning 21st July, 2014, the first Pro Metric centre will open on the island, where Project Management Institute (PMI) examinations will be conducted at the University of the West Indies Open Campus.
PMI has many Pro Metric centres around the world and offers a range of services to the Project Management profession such as the development of standards, research, education, publication, networking-opportunities in local chapters and maintaining multiple credentials in project management.
However, there was no such centre in Dominica, which was what prompted Pacquette-Lewis to write to the PMI requesting that they approve a centre for the Island.
“After conducting a market research the results were very overwhelming, in that many Dominicans are pursuing project management training online and some are doing it locally but the challenge they face is that most of them have to travel and must travel to Trinidad, Jamaica, Barbados or St. Lucia to sit the exam”, she said.
Examination costs range from E.C $700- $1000, in addition to local costs.
Having a centre here in Dominica would mean that students no longer have to travel to neighbouring Caribbean counties for PMI examinations.
The first batch to sit the exams includes students who have already undergone training with other institutions connected to PMI. Training for PMI will also be available for interested applicants later this year.
This will include face to face and online classes. Interested persons must have previous project management background and/or have worked in the field for over a year.
