Former Economist says Foreigners ‘Not an issue’

thomsonMany have remarked and controversy has been stirred up on the issue of the influx of non-nationals into Dominica over the past few years.

Regardless of the stigma raised against them, former IMF economist, Dr. Thompson Fontaine believes that foreigners living here could work in our favour.

What is important he said is to grow the economy, to make it more productive, therein dissipating the hindrance that non-nationals stand to be in the country’s economic development.

They provide self-employment as well as do the work that Dominicans are skeptical about doing, he added.

The country has seen an increase in persons from neighbouring Caribbean Islands, to include the Dominican Republic and Haiti and have welcomed individuals from as far as China.
