GEF Hosts Caribbean Constituency Meeting
A number of stakeholders across the Caribbean gathered at the Fort Young Hotel on the morning of Thursday May 1st 2014, for a two day Meeting of Global Environment Facility (GEF) Political and Operational Focal Points.
The GEF Caribbean Constituency comprises the independent States of Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.
The Meeting is expected to adopt common positions that will guide the GEF Council Member and Alternate at the up-coming GEF Council Meeting from May 25 to 27, 2014 in Cancun, Mexico.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources & Fisheries, Harold Guiste regarded the meeting as vital, as GEF aims to address global environmental issues, while supporting national development initiatives.
He advised the stakeholders to work together, as unity is vital for addressing the issue of climate change and other environmentally related issues.
