Gender-Based Violence is Only a Side Issue
One religious leader has disputed the need to put strategies in place against gender-based violence.
Redemptorist Father Franklyn Cuffy has said that it is not only men or women specifically who are under attack, but the entire family unit.
His comments came after the Minister of Health, Honorable Julius Timothy announced government’s intention to put strategies in place to help men who are victims of gender-based violence.
Father Cuffy argued that although he supports the government’s attempt to address the issue of gender violence, it is essentially the family that is under attack.
Father Cuffy also mentioned that the agenda of the family planning annual general meeting is really about family control, not gender-based violence.
