Get to know your country, take a Staycation
Traditionally, the global vacation period tends to be during the months of June through to September, popularly coinciding with the schools summer vacations.
It is during these months that the Ministry of Tourism is calling on Dominicans to get to know more of their own Island, save on travel expenses, re-invest in Dominica’s tourism industry and enjoy a Stay-cation.
The Minister for Tourism the Honorable Mr Ian Douglas commented that many Dominicans do not know their Island and encouraged locals to take Stay-cations in Dominica.
Mr Douglas commented that last fiscal year, tourism generated $243 million of foreign exchange into Dominica and is now the main income generator on the Island.
Mr Douglas stated that this income makes a significant contribution to infrastructural development in the country, as the tourism dollar filters down through the economy.
