Goodwill Primary captures the NBD Sports Division Primary schools football Championship
The Goodwill Primary School (GPS) has been crowned as the new champions of the 2011 National Bank of Dominica Sports Division Primary schools football competition.
In the finals played at the Benjamin’s Park in Portsmouth on Tuesday, the Goodwill Primary School defeated the St. John’s Primary School by three goals to two to walk away with the title.
Kervin Peters, Jevon Raphael and Gerald Parker scored one goal each for the Goodwill Primary School while Jamie Parillon and Kervington Salma netted one goal each for the St. Johns Primary School.
En route to the finals, the Goodwill Primary School defeated the Newtown primary School by one goal to nil and the St. John’s Primary School got the better of St. Luke’s School by three goals to one.
In the third place encounter, the Newtown Primary defeated the St. Luke’s Primary by five goals to nil. For the Newtown Primary School, Kieron Magloire and Raphael Joseph netted two goals each. The other goal came from the boots of Dylano Edwards.
Coach of the Goodwill Primary School Mr. Delvin Esprit attributed the team’s success to hard work.
While applauding the efforts of the various primary schools and officials who made this tournament a success, Sports Coordinator at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Mr. Trevor Shillingford also commended the National Bank of Dominica for sponsoring this year’s championship.
According to him, this year they witnessed an increase in the number of participating schools.
He says the Ministry of Sports is encouraged by this development and looks forward to a further increase in participation, next year.
