Government & China Hosts Cocktail Ceremony to Celebrate Twining of Hangzhou and Roseau
The Government of Dominica and the Peoples’ Republic of China (PRC) on June 7th 2014 hosted an Economic & Trade Tourism Promotion Seminar as part of a visit of a delegation from Hangzhou.
The delegation was on island to discuss plans for the twining of the City of Roseau and Hangzhou. Recently the Dominica Labour Administration announced plans for an uplift of the capital city of Roseau.
Speaking at the cocktail, Mayor of Roseau, Her Worship Irene John, pledged the council’s full support for the initiative.
“Council anticipates endorsement of the twining agreement between Hangzhou and Roseau as it is perceived that we share a common interest in tourism, culture, education and advance technology and pledge to collaborate as sister cities, she said.
Hangzhou is the capital of Zhejiang Province and one of the seven ancient capitals of China.
Chinese Ambassador to Dominica, His Excellency Li Jiangning believed that the seminar would help to enhance mutual understanding and build friendships between the people of Dominica and Hangzhou.
The agreement also seeks to develop Tourism and Trade between the two cities.
Infrastructure, agriculture, tourism and light manufacturing were some of the other topics discussed during the meeting at cabinet that preceded the cocktail celebration.
Meanwhile, Honourable, Dr. Colin McIntyre Minister for Employment, Trade, Industry & Diaspora Affairs encouraged all private stakeholders to take advantage of this opportunity.
