Guinness Street Football Challenge
Mr. Lenny Bellot Sales Coordinator stated, Guinness Caribbean implemented this challenge in 2011. Based on the success of this inaugural event this initiative has evolved into a regional event, with wide spread publicity and endorsement.
Mr. Bellot says they will be doing it bigger and better this year and Dominica Brewery & Beverages Ltd. is undertaking measures to ensure that Dominica is fully represented in this rapidly growing sporting concept.
He said they have already set the stage for selection of local teams to represent the island.
Only persons 18 and above will be legible to participate in the event and the Brewery is looking to select teams from each zone to compete. The competition will be in a knock out format, no second chances.
Mr. Elvis Clifton, Trade Marketing Coordinator, said the program comes with significant benefits both locally and regionally.
He highlighted this initiative also gives persons within the various communities, the opportunity to attain regional exposure and further developed skills and talents.
Mr. Clifton believes, there is an ongoing search for talent around the world on a yearly basis.
The Trade Marketing Coordinator is of the view, that if permission is not granted to use the streets for competition, their secondary option would be a basketball court in the different villages.
The competition is separated into eight zones, 2 teams per zone, will compete in the sweet sixteen grand finale.
The winning team will receive an official street pitch where they can practice.
Mr. Bellot added that something extra will be brought into the competition this year, by having the Guinness skills challenge.
