Health officials concerned about inappropriate ‘fast food’ garbage disposal
Health officials here are expressing concern regarding the inappropriate disposal of ‘fast food’ garbage.
This came to the fore after officials from the Health Department teamed up with the Rotaract Club of Roseau to conduct a clean-up campaign, behind the Roseau Bayfront wall on Saturday.
Health Officer, Mr. Sylvester St. Ville says the campaign comes just a day before Dominica observes World Environment Day, which is being celebrated on June 5th, 2011.
Mr. St. Ville says the amount of ‘fast food’ garbage collected at the back of the wall was rather alarming.
Health officials are calling on Dominicans to be mindful of their actions before littering, since it not only impacts on our tourism industry, but also pose a major threat to marine life.
World Environment Day was declared by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
This year’s theme: ‘forests: nature at your service’, underscores the intrinsic link between quality of life and the health of forests and forest ecosystem.
The theme also supports this year’s United Nations International year of forests.
