Hike With The Clergy
The call came from The Events Coordinator in the Association of Diocesan Clergy, Father Herman Sharplis who says the hike will feature high profile persons such as; Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, Bishop of Roseau His Lordship Gabriel Malzaire and Tourism Minister Ian Douglas amongst others.
Father Sharplis says there is a lot of talk about how big people have gotten, so they see this as an opportunity to encourage people to come out and walk more.
Father Sharplis explained further that, the hike will also be an opportunity for Dominicans to discover and appreciate the island’s natural beauty.
Persons attending will hike segment thirteen of the Waitukubuli National Trail, which is considered to be an easy hike, which will begin in the village of Penville and will culminate in Capuchin.
Father Sharplis says for those who are not quick walkers, the trail is about 3 and a half hours, but others can complete it in 1 and a half or 2 hours.
He added that the Waitikubuli National Trails are trails that, our forefathers walked on a daily basis to get home, but in modern times a lot of people drive rather than walking which is good exercise.
He went on to say that the hike will also be a good opportunity for persons to socialize, especially those who are caught up in their busy lives on a regular basis.
Anyone interested in participating in the hike are asked to gather in Penville before 7:00 a.m.
