Historic Business Mission to Martinique and Guadeloupe a Success – Vincent Philbert
After undertaking a successful inaugural fact finding Business Mission to the French departments of Martinique and Guadeloupe, from March 31st to April 4th 2014, Head of the OECS Export Development Unit (EDU) in Dominica, Vincent Philbert concludes that the OECS business firms utilized the opportunities available, to network and develop partnerships with firms in the two French speaking islands.
Coming out of this Mission we really believe that it is important to form new strong relationships and strengthen existing business contacts, he said.
The recently ended Mission comprised of 27 private sector leaders from OECS Member States in the manufacturing and creative industries, community-based tourism, renewable energy and professional services sectors.
During the Mission, the OECS firms visited several places of interest to their respective sectors, attended Seminars on “Doing Business” in both countries, and held one-on-one business to business meetings.
Philbert said in order to engage in effective business exchange among players in both markets it is necessary to deepen understanding between the two islands, explore areas of collaboration and embrace each other as friends.
It expected that the recent activity be followed up with trade facilitation and sensitization programs undertaken in close collaboration with public and private sector counterparts from Martinique and Guadeloupe.
This activity formed part of the Work Programme of the EDU under the current implementation of activities as part of the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) Economic Integration and Trade of the OECS Region.
