Hugo Chavez is Re-elected as Venezuelan President

President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez had a landslide victory on Sunday October 7th, 2012, in the Venezuelan Elections.

On Monday October 8th, the Honourable Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, congratulated the Venezuelan President on his victory at the poles and the Venezuelan people for having what appeared to be a very free and fair election.

Dominica has enjoyed very good fraternal relations with Venezuela and that relationship has deepened and broadened under the leadership of President Chavez.

He recognizes that President Chavez contested the elections under trying circumstances, particularly because of his health, but he did it because of his genuine love for the people of Venezuela.

The Venezuelan Ambassador, Her Excellency Carmen Martinez de Grijalva, says the reaction in Venezuela is overwhelming, as this is the first time that the Venezuelan people get to make such decisions, and get so from much from their Government.

We wish President Chavez a fruitful six years in office.
