Prime Minister Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit says, he makes no apology for giving money to the Catholic Church.

He made the statement on Sunday June 16th, following wide spread criticism of a donation of EC $500,000.00 to the Bishop of Roseau His Lordship Gabriel Malzaire, on Wednesday June 4th 2014, which will go towards the renovation of the Roseau Cathedral Church.

The Prime Minister says he is standing by his decision.

“I carry out instructions from above, and it is not me who give the Church but it is the Lord who gave the Church the money, so those of us who want to criticize a good deed are not criticizing me they are criticizing the Lord,” he stated.

He said we have to be very careful what we criticize as people.

At the time of the donation the Prime Minister stated, as the Lord continues to provide for the State where the State can assist further the State will try to assist.

The project is expected to be completed in two to three years depending on the inflow of funds and costs are estimated at EC $8 million, however $5 million has been raised.
