Director of the Debates Commission in Jamaica, Mr. Brian St. Juste, said that implementing debates during the election process, would allow citizens of a country, the opportunity to make sensible choices in terms of voting.

He noted every different territory has the same issues and the same concerns about trying to stage debates whether on election time or general debates as a whole.

Mr. Juste says, what it really does is enhance democratic process, increase public discuss around issues and move politics from a confrontation level to focus on what affects the nation.

“I think there are a lot of people very eager and excited and apprehensive because of the failed attempts but they must not be daunted in the issues that confront people in Dominica, Belize, Haiti and Trinidad and even in Jamaica.”

Mr. St. Juste said it is just a matter of how the mechanism is developed, improvement of credibility and positioning people around the table, who are serious about getting the job done.
