Installation of Equipment for Multi–Purpose Identification Card Commences
The Electoral Commission is one step closer to the implementation of a multi- purpose identification card for Dominica.
The Chief Election Officer Mr. Steven Larocque says that the main equipment to facilitate the process is here in Dominica.
Subsequent to the installation process, persons will be trained for the use and management of the equipment.
The Commission has taken suggestions to assist in the formulation of their policy.
Meanwhile Mr. Larocque has refuted concerns, that the electoral commission does not have the powers under the law to issue multi-purpose identification cards.
Government’s share of purchasing the equipment is US$785,000 and they have also provided US$96,000 for the first 100,000 cards, which will be free to Dominicans.
