International Red Cross Day
The Dominica Red Cross joined the International Red Crescent Community to celebrate World Red Cross Red Crescent Day.
To mark this event the Dominica Red Cross is celebrating the contributions of young people and encouraging their continued action and leadership under the global theme, “Youth on the move – doing more, doing better and reaching further.”
The Dominica branch recognized “Youth on the move,” and the profound impact that young people are having in their communities and on the global stage through the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
Celebrations began with the Club 25 Picture Scavenger Hunt on May 5th, the proceeds of which will go towards funding a trip to St. Lucia for a training session in St. Lucia.
On May 8th, there was an enrollment ceremony for the installment of new Red Cross members.
Youth volunteers from the Red Cross Clubs will visit radio stations during the week to promote volunteerism and will participate in a reunion of members past and present.
The recent establishment of a dynamic Club 25 Youth Group has complemented the voluntary blood recruitment programme of the Princess Margaret Hospital. Requests for additional blood donors are sourced either from these members or their database of donors.
The Dominica Red Cross began in 1958 as a branch of the British Red Cross and became an independent national society in 1983.
