Interview with Collin Piper
Dominicans and cricket fans alike will be pleased that, plans are on the way to make Dominican born West Indies cricketer Shane Shillingford, one of the new faces of the “I Am Dominica” campaign.
The announcement was made by Director of Tourism and CEO of Discover Dominica Authority, Mr. Collin Piper in an interview with SAT TV following the end of the Digicel Test, West Indies versus Australia.
Mr. Piper also added that Dominica hosting the Digicel Test was beneficial, since it increased the visitor arrivals of over 800 people.
He said everyone benefitted from the event, since hotels and guesthouses were booked, vendors sold souvenirs, farmers sold more produce and taxi drivers were able do more tours. And all the income earned will be circulated in Dominica.
In many of his conversations with visitors, Mr. Piper pointed out that most of them indicated that there is magic in the air when asked what they like about Dominica.
He said this response is partly because of the genuine attitude of Dominicans, and their warmth which so many visitors appreciate. They also mentioned the view of Dominica from an aircraft when flying into the country.
As cricket is so much of a big sport in Dominica Mr. Piper also highlighted that there will be plans to have future cricket test series hosted here, and that it will have a big impact on the tourism sector in Dominica.
He also added if the Dominica Football Association is ready in terms of football, they are ready and willing to assist since they believe that sporting events helps Dominica in more ways than is realized.
The CEO said that the large media coverage of such sporting events is essential for brand development of Dominica, and they are constantly working towards this at the Discover Dominica Authority.
Mr. Piper went on to give thanks to all those who were involved in the hosting of the Digicel Test Series a success, especially the West Indies Cricket Board.
