ITSS Hosts Forum on Sexual Abuse
On Monday 29th April, during a forum held at the school, the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School (ITSS) focused its attention on child abuse with special emphasis on sexual abuse, geared at educating the students as well as their parents.
Police inspector Claude Weekes and his wife Mrs. Delia Cuffy Weekes, addressed the forum, where Mrs. Weekes stated, that some individuals may ask themselves, “What can I do”? In addition, she urged participants of the workshop to use their mouths and speak, when necessary.
She added, when she grew up as a child, she was taught to cover herself, rather than the opposite.
She explained to the students of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School, that this is one of the reasons why the school has a uniform.
Mrs. Weekes also reminded the students that abortion is illegal in Dominica and reminded them that this could be their only opportunity to have a child.
Mr. Weekes, added that it is the parents and social agencies responsibilities to ensure that the children are protected.
He told the students that they are precious people made in God’s image and they should never allow anyone to belittle them in any form.
The students and teachers appeared to me extremely involved in the discussion and we do hope that it was beneficiary for them.
