January is Drug Awareness Month
The National Drug Abuse Prevention Unit has selected the month of January as Drug Awareness Month, as the Unit continue its efforts to reduce the use of illegal drugs on the Island.
This year it will be hosted under theme “Make health your new high in life, not drugs.”
Head of the Drug Abuse Prevention Unit, Ms. Jacinta Bannis noted, several activities have been planned and have already begun to mark the month’s celebration.
On January 21st, they will judge a poster competition, held during Drug Awareness Week in November, where schools were asked to submit posters and poems.
The Unit will travel to the village of Woodford Hill for an anti-drug rally in the North of the Island and will host a secondary schools Performing Arts Festival on January 28th.
According to Ms. Bannis, the month of activities will close with a Church Service on February 9th at the Grand Fond Catholic Church.
Throughout the years, Drug Awareness Month has been reaching its intended groups of people, as they continue to focus on preventative measures and sensitization of drug use.
