Mr. Shane Degallerie was found guilty of murder by a nine member jury

Mr. Shane Degallerie was found guilty of murder by a nine member jury on Thursday 13th June 2013.

Following a three week trial, Mr. Degallerie is now on remand at the Dominica State Prison, until his sentencing on July 8th.

On April 23rd 2010, Mr. Degallerie was accused of stabbing Mr. Justin Joseph of Fond Cole to death, subsequent to a quarrel which occurred at a shop in Pottersville.

Dr. Hendricks Paul, Consultant Surgeon, was the defence sole witness. He testified that he administered medical treatment to the defendant for a supposed stabbed wound on 24th April 2010.

Meanwhile the Prosecution presented 12 witnesses who testified in regards to the incident.

They included the shopkeeper, who managed the building where the incident transpired, a few of Joseph’s friends, medical officials, and police officers, among others.

The matter had been ongoing during the September 2012 Criminal Assizes, however the Court was obligated to review it after the leading juror fell ill.

The State’s case was led by acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Julien Prevost, assisted by state attorneys, Arthlyn Nesty and Sherma Dalrymple.

Mr. Degallarie was represented by Zena Moore Dyer and Gina Dyer Munro.
