Kinghill Youth Center officially open; resource center coming soon
Youths in the community of Kingshill have welcomed the opening of a youth center, as plans for the establishment of a resource center is on the way.
The youth center was officially opened at Center Street in Kingshill, on Tuesday, June 7th, 2011.
Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau South Constituency, Honorable Ambrose George says the center will serve as a focal point for Kingshill youth to collaborate to build the community.
He called on the newly formed youth group; youth for change, to take ownership of the building to make a positive change in the community.
Minister for Youth, Culture and Sports, Honorable Justina Charles encouraged the youths of Kingshill to embrace the many opportunities that may be presented to them, with the advent of this youth center.
At Tuesday’s opening ceremony, Prime Minister of Dominica, Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit pledged $20,000 for the purchasing of equipment and furnishings towards the center.
The Dominican leader sent out a strong appeal to the youth to take responsibility of their lives and to look at the opportunity as a second chance for better things to come.
Another major ongoing project in the Kingshill community is the construction of a road from ‘nine-houses’ to ‘battery’, linking to the neighboring community of Newtown.
