Kiwanis Club Debate On Tourism
The Kiwanis Club of Waitukubuli in collaboration with the Discover Dominica
Authority hosted a debate that featured students of the Tourism Department at the Dominica State College.
Secretary of the Kiwanis Club of Waitukubuli, Andrea Louis says that the club is happy to host the debate as the club is aimed towards helping the youth as well as children in all areas including personal development.
Four young ladies of the Tourism major class debated on the topic of ‘Dominica’s physical characteristics are the main impediments to Tourism Development’.
CEO of the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Mr. Colin Piper says that the DDA is pleased to collaborate with the Kiwanis Club as not only is the topic a pertinent one but the debate is also a precursor of activities for the upcoming Tourism month.
The proposing team won with an argument that Dominica’s physical characteristics are part of the attraction of tourists to Dominica such as the natural sulphur spas and eco-tourism sites to name a few.
The opposing team argued that the physical characteristics limit development as a result of the mountains that restrict building and poor infrastructure such as poor road conditions.
Judges in the competition were Magistrate Ossie Lewis, Tourism Consultant Miss Marie-Jose Edwards and Miss Catherine Daniel a representative of the education sector.
