Kweyol Spelling Bee Finals

speelling-bee1.jpgThe Komite Pou Etid Kweyol (KEK) and the Division of Culture held its third Annual Kweyol Spelling Bee Competition on May 9th 2012.


The competition was set among the primary schools on the island from 11 different zones.

It served to promote the local language known as Kweyol or Patois in children around the island as well as keeping this major cultural attribute of Dominica alive.


Cultural Officer, Mr. Raymond Lawrence highlighted the importance of continuing and preserving the creole language in Dominica.


Selena Victor of the Paix Bouche Primary School won the final competition with Lancia Demosthene of St. Luke’s Primary School placing second.


The Delice Primary School represented by Grace Etienne took third place and Megan Denis of Grand Bay Primary School placed 4th.


The winners from the preliminary competition of the 11 zones were presented with certificates and trophies.

The top four places were presented with gift bags and trophies.


The competition was part of the DOMFESTA 2012 activities that began on April 27th.
