Land Tenancy Consultation Held on July 20
A White Paper has been developed as part of the Land Tenure Administration Reform Programme in Dominica.
In this effort, the government of Dominica contracted consultants Brown & Co. of the United Kingdom. They were also involved in preparing drafting instructions to allow relevant changes to the Agricultural Small Tenancies Act, the Title by Registration Act of 1886 and the Land Survey Act of 1988.
A consultation was hosted on July 20 at the Public Service Training Centre to review the draft document submitted by the consultants.
According to Senior Administrative Office of the Reform Management Unit, Ms. Cecillia Carr, this consultancy was very important considering the various uses of land in Dominica.
The White Paper proposes to provide a clear and transparent legal framework for land registration, ownership and tenancy, adopt improved systems to facilitate and guarantee property rights and effective and efficient methods of property transfers and strengthen the capacity of linkages between key institutions and agencies of government involved in land administration among other things.
