Launch of Cooperative magazine
As part of the celebrations of the Year of Cooperatives, the Cooperative Movement of Dominica has officially launched its magazine ‘The Insight’.
The magazine is the first of the Movement for many decades.It was put out as a historic point to be used as a reference for generations to come.
The Insight highlights the development of the Cooperative Movement by displaying where it was years ago to where it is going.
Mariet Canoville, the Registrar of Cooperatives went on to note that the title ‘Insight’ was quite appropriate as the magazine gave insight into the workings of various cooperatives in Dominica.
Honourable Gloria Shillingford, the Minister of Social Services, Community Development and Gender Affairs says that as the Minister of Cooperatives, she is proud of the achievement attained by the production of this magazine.
Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit, the Prime Minister of Dominica says that the Cooperative Movement is a very pertinent presence in Dominica and is supported by the government.
He says that the government has put in place infrastructure to better facilitate the work of the cooperatives by the construction of several gas stations for the fishing cooperatives in collaboration with Petro Caribe.
At the official launching ceremony of the magazine, the four students who emerged winners of the Cooperative essay competition were recognized.
The secondary school winner was Kayana Dupuis of the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School.
Second place went to Darnel Carbon of the Convent High School.
The primary school essay competition was won by Marquela BEdneau of the Salisbury Primary School and second place went to Jessima Carrette of Clifton Primary School.
