Launch of Dominica Can Dance

So you think you can dance? Consider, Dominica Can Dance!

In an attempt to get adults, youth and children on the Nature Isle of Dominica engaged in an activity geared at developing them mentally, socially and physically, the idea of Dominica Can Dance was born, which was officially launched at the Anchorage Hotel on Thursday 9th August.

Head Coordinator of the Dominica Can Dance Committee, Mr. Ansel Prince says this competition will do well in showcasing the ability of local dancers to compete at an international level.

Acting General Manager of LIME Dominica, Mr. Clyde Edwards, pointed out that at LIME they believe strongly in the development of people in every facet of the Dominican society.

He said this is made possible with their sponsorship of many activities and events particularly in the realm of culture, education, and sports.

Mr. Edwards added that he is confident that Dominica Can Dance will take the art form of dancing to a whole new level.

Mr. Edwards also mentioned that LIME is steadfast in its efforts to support the island’s youth in the undertaking to help create an early future.

Minister of Tourism Honourable Ian Douglas who said he is pleased with this dance project added that, although it may be a small one at this point, it does have a lot of potential to blossom into a huge event once we can think beyond the horizon.

Mr. Douglas added that the government of Dominica will support the Dominica Can Dance project which is an innovative idea which came from a young man.

The Tourism Minister congratulated Mr. Ansel Prince for coming up with the idea and urged him to keep doing positive things to break the negative stigma that surrounds young people.

Mr. Douglas also urged the dancers and organizers of the event to follow and believe in their dreams.

The first competition will take place at the Krazy Koconuts on Saturday August 23rd which will feature dances in categories such as; reggae, hip hop, and salsa among others.
