During a press conference which took place on Wednesday April 30th 2014, a month of events planned by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with the Discover Dominica Authority, and the Dominica Hotel & Tourism Association in addition to other tourism stakeholders were revealed.
Head of Marketing of Discover Dominica Authority, Mrs. Nikima Royer noted, there is an increase in this year’s events including workshop and seminars for taxi operators, tour guides and vendors and other persons involved in the industry.
Other activities include; May Fest from May 2nd to 5th, National Tourism Cocktail on May 17th, Tourism Open Day on May 23rd, Nature Lovers Adventure Hike on May 30th, and Word, Sound & Power, Jazz ‘n Creole Edition on June 5th.
Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism, Honourable Ian Douglas reiterated that tourism is everybody’s business, and we must view Dominica as the Nature Island of not only the Caribbean but the world.
Mr. Douglas says, we must try every way possible to attract tourists, since the cruise business is very competitive in the Caribbean and many islands include several incentives in an attempt to gain more cruise ship arrivals.
He said with this challenge, we must set our sights on world standards, in order to compete with other countries and to succeed in this industry as an emerging tourism destination.
We need to continue to grow our sector through more intimate collaboration between the public and private sector he said.
The Minister added, we must all embrace the month of activities, and keep playing our part to improve our tourism product, as we all benefit in some way or another from tourism.
