Light House Academy Emerges Winner of the 2013 Reading Competition

Shanda Francis representing the Light House Academy has won the 2013 DBS Radio Reading Competition 2013.

Ms. Francis, who won the title with 490 points, received $2000 for herself as well as $2000 for her school. She also received $300 from Domlec for being the best reader in round one and an additional $300 for being the best reader in round two.

Ms. Francis will also have the opportunity to present DBS Radio’s 13:15 Newscast.

Mallet Marie of the Pioneer Prepatory School emerged 2nd with 470 points and received $1000 from Courts along with a laptop.

In third place was Merkayla Jno. Baptiste of the Convent Prepatory with 469 points, she received $200 and a computer from LIME.

Fourth place went to Annicia Coipel of the St. Martin Primary School with 467 points; she also received a cash prize from Courts and a tablet from CIS.

Nine Primary School students competed against each other; there were two rounds where each student read one story – a narrative and a news item.

This year’s theme for the competition was “Read today, for tomorrow!
