Light of Life Church of God of Prophecy to address social ills affecting the youth of Good Hope
One local church in the east of Dominica, the Light of Life Church of God of Prophecy in Good Hope is going beyond its call of duty as it is in the process of undertaking a major awareness programme, in an attempt to address the many issues affecting the youth in good hope and its neighboring communities.
Pastor of the church, Irving Lawson says in an attempt to address some of the social ills that are affecting the eastern communities, his church will be hosting a series of bi-monthly public forums, beginning this weekend.
He says, while much focus is already being placed on reducing and combating these social ills, the church is prepared to adopt and promote preventative measures.
Pastor Lawson says the church has already started its awareness campaign by engaging the youth in one-on-one discussions, while at the same time, distributing flyers to the general public, on the subject matter.
He says one of their greatest challenges is the culture of silence of residents, who deliberately avoid discussions on the issue.
However, Pastor Lawson is optimistic that despite the odds, they can save at least one life.
The first forum will be held on Friday, January 28th, 2011 at the Good Hope community center, from 5:00pm, on the topic ‘drug use and its impact’.
It is aimed at increasing awareness, encouraging participation, implementing preventative measures and helping those who are already victims of drug abuse.
Partners in the campaign include the Castle Bruce Cooperative Credit Union, the Castle Bruce Village Council, the Parliamentary Representative for the Good Hope constituency, Honorable Johnson Drigo and other church leaders in the area.
