Mahaut Reunion Official Opening
Mrs. Annette John- Charles Stedman, Chairperson of the Reunion Committee said the Reunion was an initiative of the Mahaut, Jimmit and Tarreau Village councils which began its planning in August 2010.
Honourable Gloria Shillingford, Minister for Community Development congratulated all those who struggled to bring the reunion to what it has become.
She wanted them to stay focused and mindful of their theme, all of which is typical at any reunion.
She says that during any reunion, communities make an extra effort to highlight the success of participating communities in the reunion, and she asked them to let the successes stimulate them to keep working to bring their communities to the next level.
Honourable Rayburn Blackmoore, Parliamentary Representative for the Mahaut Constituency expressed his gratitude to those living overseas for their commitment to rebuilding Mahaut and Dominica by extension, with their gift of cash and kind.
He says that reunion activities and feast activities need to go beyond just celebrating fete but use the event to bring out the brightest versions of the communities.
The celebrations included performances by Brothers of Destiny, “Remo” Joseph and Henry Etienne.
Upcoming activities include a public forum on bridging the gap between youth and senior citizens on July 24 and a health fair on August 1st.
