Man fined for malicious damage

I didn’t do it intentionally; I was under the influence of alcohol.

These were the mitigating words of Hilroy Bougoneau of Morne Prosper at the Roseau magistrate court on Monday October 10th where he was charged for malicious damage.

The incident occurred on the 28th of august at 10pm at morne prosper when Bougoneau got into a physical altercation with Kenrick Luke.

Soon after the altercation Bougoneau slammed his fist into the windscreen of Luke’s vehicle which smashed the windscreen and left.

When confronted by the arresting officer Bougoneau stated that he will take full responsibility for all the damage, because he was high and didn’t know what happened till someone told him.

 

Bougoneau pled guilty to the charge of malicious damage before magistrate Candia George, and was fined $1780 compensation to be paid no later than October 31st or in default spend three months imprisonment.

He was also fined $1000 for the offence to be paid no later than December 31st or spend two months imprisonment.

Before handing down the punishment, magistrate George advised Bougoneau that he must not drink to the point of impaired judgment.
