Man sentenced to 45 months in jail after pleading guilty to 8 charges
Derrick Jno Baptiste of #3 River Street was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in jail on June 10th, by Magistrate Tiyani Behanzin, after he pleaded guilty to eight charges brought against him. Jno Baptiste pleaded guilty to intimidation, threats, resisting arrest, obstruction, battery, assault, escape from custody and malicious damage.
According to the facts of the court, he was arrested on June 5th, 2010 at the Roseau market after pulling a knife on the security officer stationed there. According to Magistrate Behanzin, the defendant has a 5-page offence list with 64 previous convictions. He was also ordered to pay compensation of $110 by September 28th, 2013, for the police officers trousers which was destroyed during the scuffle.
In other court news, Glenroy Scotland of Castle Bruce will have up to November 30th, 2010 to come up with $8,000 after he pleaded guilty to possession and possession with intent to supply cannabis. Scotland was found with 223 grams of marijuana seeds while a search warrant was being executed at his residence in Castle Bruce on June 9th, 2010. He will serve 6 months in prison if the fine is not paid.
One man also appeared before the Roseau Magistrate Court for indecent assault and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor aged 9 years 3 months. The preliminary inquiry into the matter will begin on September 24th, 2010.
