Marigot Opening of Carnival

The community of Marigot launched their 2011 carnival celebrations with a grand street parade last weekend.

The community which is home to the reigning calypso monarch Gregory ‘Karessah’ Riviere and the popular ‘Sugar Fyah Band’, is promising carnival revelers in the north, a bigger and better carnival this year.

The parade included a number of groups including the darkies, costume bands, contestants of the Marigot princess show and flag wavers, to name a few.

Following carnival Monday and Tuesday’s street parade in Marigot, the Sugar Fyah Band is expected to join the Kalinago community in celebrating Taway Vaval, on Ash Wednesday.
