Market Day with a difference has been described as one which Dominicans should be proud of
Despite the terrible weather last Saturday, October 30th 2010, patrons gathered at the Roseau Market in large numbers to show support to the farmers of Dominica for their tremendous contributions towards Dominica’s culture and economy when Dexia hosted its annual Market Day with a Difference. Mrs Margaret George, Chairman of Dexia’s Board of Directors said that they are working tirelessly to ensure that the farmers have a conducive ambiance to work with as she appealed to all persons to provide assistance in the maintenance of the Roseau Market.
“We want to inform the vendors that we have not forgotten you as it relates to the covering of the open grounds section of the Roseau market. We are working tirelessly to secure the necessary funds in order to begin construction,” said Mrs George.
Acting Minister for Employment Trade, Industry and Disapora Affairs, Honourable Alvin Bernard said that the Government of Dominica recognizes agriculture as a major pillar in the country’s economy.
He said, “we believe that Dominica has no future without agriculture since the country depends heavily on this industry. It has a higher multiplier effect than any other economic activity in the country.”
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit added that Dominicans have a lot to be proud of as he addressed the gathering at the ceremony.
Government are laying of public workers whether it is teachers, police officers any other workers but here in Dominica we have not laid off any public officer as yet due to the global financial crisis.
