Minister for Employment to Chair First EAC Meeting
At a time when the economies of OECS Member States are undergoing difficulties, Minister for Employment, Trade, Industry and Diaspora Affairs, Honourable Dr. John Collin McIntyre travelled to St. Lucia, to chair the first meeting of the Economic Affairs Council (EAC) of the OECS.
The meeting was held from June 12th to 13th, 2014 to update the Council on the status of the commitments made by Heads of Government, as well as the implementation of activities in support of these commitments.
The agenda included achievements thus far and the outstanding matters, which have been hindering the progress of the Economic Union.
Additionally, the meeting discussed the facilitation of Private Sector development, and the status of the Eight-Point Stabilization and Growth Programme initiated by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.
The Economic Affairs Council is responsible for the implementation of the OECS Economic Union and was established under the Revised Treaty of Basseterre which was signed by Heads of Government of Member States in June of 2010.
This Economic Union has formed the OECS Member States into one economic and financial space.
