Ministry Of Health and Deliverance Baptist Church Hosts Critical Incident Stress Management Course
The Deliverance Baptist Church in collaboration with the Ministry of Health is currently conducting two Critical Incident Stress Management Courses (CISM) – one on Individual and Peer Support and the other on Group Crisis Intervention.
The courses, which began on Wednesday March 5th will come to an end on Friday march 7th and is being held at the Old Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) at the Princess Margaret Hospital from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Crisis Intervention is a specialized acute emergency mental health intervention that requires specialized training.
This programme is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of and a specific protocol for individual and group crisis interventions and to present the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic and multi-component crisis intervention curriculum.
Fundamentals of CISM will be outlined and participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to provide several group crisis interventions, specifically demobilisation, defusing and the Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD).
The facilitator is Dr. Naomi Paget, a published author and International Critical Incident Stress Foundation approved instructor, for many crisis and trauma courses.
The Group Crisis Intervention course will prepare participants to understand a wide range of crisis intervention services.
Dr. Paget has been consulting for several national and international organizations in various fields of trauma and disaster care.
She is also an adjunct professor and advisor to doctoral students at the Golden Gate Theological Seminar.
Dr. Paget went on to highlight that social support is very important for individuals, as most people do not like to be alone during pain and suffering.
