Ministry of Health to partner with the DCS to decrease cancer patients on the island

 

The vibrant group of the Dominica Cancer Society (DCS) held their twenty-first annual general meeting at the Public Service Union yesterday October 21st 2010 as part of one of their activities marking the thirty-second Independence Celebrations. President of the Dominica Cancer Society, Ms. Veena Royer, said that they will continue to operate two sub-committees within the society in their effort to prevent, support and educate the public on cancer.

 

She said,” this effort will raise the awareness of the public and could result in a decrease in the number of cancer patients on the island.”

 

While applauding the society, Honourable Julius Timothy, Minister of Health said that his ministry will continue to work with the Dominica Cancer Society to establish the Cancer Treatment Centre of the OECS in Dominica. He added that the Dominica Cancer Society plays a vital role in cancer prevention and can be considered as one of the most important support organizations who contribute to a decrease in the mortality rate of cancer patients.
